The special presentation laid out the masterplan for the Gardens of the Future.
It includes restoration of the current gardens as well as expansion from Hamelin Street to Bosquet Street where White Hills Primary School is.
An additional street between Hamelin and Bosquet streets will also be constructed.
New aspects of the gardens will include playspaces, picnic areas and a visitor building as well as a national and international gardens.
There will be a chance for school students to take part in educational programs as well as significant events.
City of Greater Bendigo councillor Lisa Ruffell said the Botanical Gardens project had begun in 2008 when about 200 people attended the first meeting about the restoration plans.
Councillors Ruffell, James Williams and Peter Cox will present the Gardens of the Future masterplan to council in the coming months.
It is expected the concept designs and plans for the project will be completed by early 2015 with construction starting by 2016.
The two-hectare expansion is expected to cost $3.9 million.
It was also discussed at the meeting last night a plan to install more barbecues and picnic areas in the current White Hills parks is hoped to be completed by summer.
