Bendigo Health Foundation events co-ordinator Kiri Earl said 586 people had registered for the November 2 fun run with $22,129 raised for Bendigo Health's renal dialysis service.
''We are up more than 200 registrations on where we were at this time last year,'' she said.
''With spring here and the warmer weather in tow, I’m sure we will start to see more and more people out there training.”
Ms Earl said early bird registrations for the fun run were available at www.bendigobankfunrun.com.au until September 12.
Course director Hunter Gill and City of Greater Bendigo representative Pat Connolly checked out the fun run's new starting line outside the Visitor Information Centre in Pall Mall this week.
The fun run's five, 10 and 15 kilometre courses have been designed to showcase Bendigo's beauty.
Ms Earl said Mr Gill had spent countless hours measuring and assessing the course at 3am when traffic was at a minimum.
She said City of Greater Bendigo support was vital in ensuring the planning of the event and safety of competitors on the day.
“The City of Greater Bendigo’s Major Events and BenCon teams are wonderful to work with and share our passion for encouraging our community to embrace a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“With more than 3000 participants expected to take to the streets of Bendigo this year, it is imperative that the course is safe and secure and the work that goes on behind the scenes from Pat and the BenCon team is exceptional.
“Hunter’s passion for running is evident when you see the attention to detail he puts in to the fun run course to make sure each event is measured meticulously and accurate.
“This means the course is at a standard where runners can measure their personal best times.
''He is exceptional and we’re extremely lucky to have him as a part of the team.”
