IF I had a dollar for all the stereotypes trotted out for Father’s Day, I could afford that new boat the resident dad googles on a regular basis.

As a very small sample, there’s your handyman, gym junkie, techno-boffin and bookworm dad. Not to mention your couch potato, garden guru and gadget man.
And if you go by the catalogues cramming the letterbox, there’s a gift for each of them.
Let’s face it: what most dads would really love is a good old-fashioned feed and the afternoon off.
Merindoc Café and Cellar Door in Tooborac offers both this weekend with a special dad’s day menu to draw in the masses.
Alongside the café’s usual lovely fare will be bangers and mash, homemade lasagne and Merindoc lamb shanks.
“Yes, we have a special menu for the day and a complementary glass of Heathcote red for all the dads,” says Di Crawshaw.
The winery is one part of this beautiful 2500-acre property of hills and dips and those majestic boulders that characterise the Tooborac landscape.
Or dinosaur eggs, as dad would call them.
“Everything we use is either grown here or sourced as locally as we can get it,” says Di.
Bookings are essential for tomorrow, so call ahead on 5433 5188.
Merindoc Café and Cellar Door is open every weekend from 10am to 4pm at 2905 Lancefield-Tooborac Road.
