Volunteers recognised for service at SES awards

About 200 SES members, volunteers and their loved ones enjoyed a three-course meal while celebrating the service of their colleagues tonight.

The North West Region SES annual dinner and awards presentation, held at the Conservatory at Bendigo's All Seasons Hotel, brought together units from across north western Victoria.

Volunteers received certificates of service, awards and medals recognising them for their five and 10 years service.

Manager regional operations for Bendigo, Mark Cattell, was the night's MC and kicked the event off shortly after 7pm.

Regional manager John Parker gave the official welcome and began by acknowledging it had been another "very busy year both in operations and training" for the region.

He said there had been some key things of note in the past year, including units who undertook and passed new road crash rescue capability assessments.

Mr Parker said one of the most significant milestones in the past year included the creation of a multi-agency task force, seeing the SES and others co-ordinate on a level which had "never been done before".

He said another significant milestone was the opening of the new CFA fire station and SES building unit in Marong in March.

He said the evening was about recognising the contribution of units for their important role in serving their individual community and the broader region.

"Thank you for the support you provide us. We can't support you unless you support us," Mr Parker said.
