I attended this match, along with 13 other members of my family, as part of a family reunion weekend.
My family, including my 86-year-old mother, my siblings, cousins and partners, travelled from various locations around Victoria and New South Wales.
In order to provide shelter and comfort for my elderly mother I went to the ground early in the day and parked my car on the scoreboard boundary.
During the senior football match a sizeable group of supporters situated on the scoreboard boundary, many of them wearing Golden Square Football Club hoodies, displayed extremely anti-social behaviour.
This group targeted selected Sandhurst players by directing at them a barrage of abusive and highly offensive personalised taunts and threats that persisted throughout the game.
The behaviour seemed fuelled by alcohol.
It is disappointing that the actions of a small group of supporters, almost exclusively male and who appeared to be members of the Golden Square Football Club, should be allowed to spoil the enjoyment of the majority of spectators who came to the game expecting good family entertainment.
This type of behaviour is not tolerated on the field and should not be tolerated off the field.
It reflects badly on the Bendigo Football Netball League and, in this case, particularly on the Golden Square Football Club.
I would hope that appropriate action has been taken by both the league and the Golden Square Football Club to ensure that it is not repeated in the future.
