Lyon, who has played over 200 games with the Jets, will take over the reins from Josh Di Camillo, who will remain at the club in a different role.
Club president Brent Yates said Lyon was widely respected within the club and across the Bendigo District Cricket Association.
“He brings passion, teamwork, discipline and a great deal of experience of what it takes to play at a high level of cricket,” he said.
“His influence will lead our players to not just think immediate individual success but how to sustain a level of performance in a team environment in order to fulfil an overall satisfying career.”
Yates also announced BDCA Cricketer of the Year Ben Devanny would work alongside Lyon as an assistant coach.
He will also captain the A-grade team.
Fast bowler Shannon Waters will become a bowling coach for the club.
Waters has more than 400 district first-grade wickets to his name.
Lyon said he was an asset to the club.
“The Jets also have Mark Blabey our A-grade 2000-01 premiership captain returning to assist in more an off field capacity,” Lyon said.
“Assisting our senior A-grade playing level we are very pleased to welcome back to the club Nick and Bodee Scullie.
“Complimenting Nick’s opening batting experience; Luke Jones will have a great opportunity to help strengthen our top order and Isaac Hogan will add to our middle order capabilities together with what he can bring in spin bowling.
“Additions such as these players will only help the development in our young players coming through their early stages of senior cricket.”
Yates said the club had a successful junior registration night and was continuing to build strong numbers in its junior teams.
"We will continue to develop our juniors and continue to be involved in community events both locally and broadly," he said.
