Now in its fifth year, the annual event is a national 2km or 4km walk which raises awareness that one in four Australians have a disability.
While it is only a short walk for some, Walk With Me is a real challenge for others, says Scope Bendigo.
Scope customer and service delivery manager Mary Sullivan said the walk redefined the traditional notions of an event challenge.
“It’s not about running faster, swimming further or cycling longer distances,” she said.
“It’s an event challenging us to take the time to walk alongside people of all abilities.
“It’s an opportunity to support and celebrate the diversity within our community in an inclusive and festive environment.”
All funds raised in Victoria will support the work of Scope, which provides help for 150 people in Bendigo.
Ben Holmes, 23, who has autism, is one of those people whose lives have changed with the help of the organisation.

“The challenges that come with the disability include communication and socialising,” he said.
“But thanks to Scope, I am now part of peer groups, team sports such as balloon footy and can work on team building.”
Mr Holmes has used Scope for five years, as well as Community Care Options and Care Beyond Measure.
“They do provide support and assistance in the local community and give me respite from my family as well as inclusion in the wider community.”
Scope provides services to 4097 people across 97 service locations in Victoria.
It also works with 1549 community organisations to improve inclusiveness for people with a disability.
Walk With Me will be held this Sunday, August 17, at Lake Weeroona, Bendigo from 9.30am to 2pm.
Tickets cost $50 for a family, $20 for an adult and $10 for a concession. People can register at www.scopevic.org.au
