In what was a showdown of third and fourth on the ladder in the first week of the split round, the Redbacks destroyed Newstead by 92 points on Saturday.
The Steaders had 4.2 on the board at quarter-time, but only kicked a further 1.3 for the rest of the match as the Redbacks steamrolled them 20.7 (127) to 5.5 (35).
Liam Cunningham continued his outstanding form for the Redbacks, booting 10 goals in a best-on-ground performance.
Cunningham now has 60 goals for the season - 51 of which have come in his past nine games.
Also leading the rout for the Redbacks - who lost to Newstead in round one - were Jackson Bowen, Ben Kick and coach Luke Treacy (two goals).
Michael Dalrymple, Joel Smith and Ashley Webster led the better players for the Steaders in their third loss of the season.
• Maldon kicked just one goal in the first half, but fought back superbly to beat Campbells Creek by eight points and win its second game of the season.
The Creekers led by 26 points at half-time, 5.8 to 1.2, and appeared well on track to post their seventh win and take another step towards that much coveted first finals berth since 1999.
But the Bombers showed tremendous fighting spirit, kicking 7.5 to 1.7 after half-time to win 8.11 (59) to 6.15 (51), and for the time being are off the bottom of the ladder.
Nicholas McKnight, Michael Rorke (two goals), Hayden Kelly and Josh Pascoe were all superb in the memorable win for the Bombers.
The loss leaves Campbells Creek with a 6-8 record, and if Harcourt beats Dunolly next week, the Creekers' buffer inside the top eight will be cut to just one game.
James Boag, Jayson Gilbert and Brandon Greenwood were the best of the Creekers.
• Natte Bealiba disposed of Avoca by 94 points at home. The Swans improved to 10-4 and kept within one game of the top four with the 18.15 (123) to 4.5 (29) win.
It was still game-on at half-time as the Swans led by just 10 points.
But it was all one-way traffic after the break as the Swans piled on 14 goals to one to blow the Bulldogs away.
Thomas Douglas, Lachlan Cameron, Jacob Long and Ryan Weir (five goals) were influential for the Swans. Coach Adrian Pilgrim and Thomas Nankivell battled hard for the Bulldogs.
