The Hawks have still been unable find the consistency coach Luke Monaghan has craved all season.
They are yet to win two games in a row and haven’t beaten a side in the top five ahead of their Gardiner Reserve clash against Gisborne on Saturday.
But while the Hawks have no scalps of note and haven’t been able to back up a win with another the following week, they are in the top five with an even 7-7 record.
“We just can’t get a consistent team out on the park and have another four forced changes this week,” Monaghan said on Friday.
“Our lack of consistency has been our biggest problem all year. We allow sides to get away from us in short periods of time and that’s what happens when you have a young and changing group.
“But we look forward to the challenge each week. We know what’s on the line every time we go out there to play and it doesn’t matter what side we have on the park, we’re confident in our abilities.
“But we’ve got to start knocking off these good sides if we want to play finals.”
The Hawks have alternated fifth and sixth position on the ladder with Kangaroo Flat for the past six rounds.
Among the outs for the Hawks on Saturday is X-factor Brodie Filo, who has suffered a hand injury that is expected to keep him out for at least the next two games.
Hayden Collins (hamstring tightness) and Ryan Wellington (appendix), who kicked four goals against Castlemaine last week, is also out. Mali Cross will play his first senior game for the club.
