The tireless efforts by the committee have secured grants from both the federal and state Coalition governments to promote and preserve the history of Huntly and the surrounding area.
Last year, along with Greg Hunt MP, I was pleased to commit $10,000 towards the cost of publication. This book will make a valuable contribution in preserving not only the history of the subject matter, but also the knowledge that may otherwise be lost, if it were not for the dedication of hardworking volunteers.
This grant is part of a $1.4 million Community Heritage Grants program to build stronger communities across Australia.
In May this year, the Napthine Coalition government announced a $40,000 grant through Victoria’s Heritage Restoration Fund for roof repair works to the former Huntly Shire Council chambers where the Huntly Historical Society is based.
This fund will deliver up to $2.7 million for heritage grants across Victoria.
The grant will help preserve the building for generations to come and enable the society to better protect, store and showcase the important historical memorabilia of the local area.
I encourage Bendigo residents to support the Huntly Historical Society by attending the book launch event this Sunday at 10am at the Huntly Memorial Hall, 647 Midland Highway, Huntly.
