Zayden was a beautiful, happy, energetic little boy who had just taken his first steps and said his first words.
One of the things he loved most was to play with his big brother, Xavier - but he didn’t get long enough to do so.
On the night of Zayden’s death, Xavier went to bed a happy big brother, but woke the next day having lost his best mate to an unthinkable crime.
His family has long acknowledged their little man is the forgotten victim of the crime that stole his brother’s life.
And that’s why they’re motivated to create a happy space - somewhere they can take Xavier to create happy memories. Somewhere that brings laughter and fun back into their lives.
A place not only for Xavier and in memory of Zayden, but where all families can go to share special time with their children.
Their goal is to raise enough money to build a new playground in Bendigo. A happy, bright place reflective of all the wonderful memories they have of a much-loved little boy.
After months of living in the depths of grief and having to face their son, nephew and grandson’s killer in court, Zayden’s family is trying to find a positive way to move forward after what trial Justice Stephen Kaye described as an ‘utterly evil’ crime.
The family has set up a Zayden’s Memorial Playground Facebook page, on which they write:
‘He had the most brightest, beautiful face you would ever see and the most loving family anyone could ever ask for.
“But someone has taken him away from us and us away from him.
“We wish to raise funds to go towards a playground dedicated to the memory of Zayden ... also for a lot of other parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, family and friends that have lost a loved one, where we can all go and share our love for all the angels out there.’’

The pain of the trial ended for them when the jury delivered a guilty verdict in the murder trial of Zayden’s killer - but their pain at the loss of a little boy will never end.
We can support them to achieve their goal to create a happy space for other children and families - and it won’t take much if each of us only gives a little.
