Bendigo Advertiser NewsNow is a finalist in the Daily Regional Newspaper of the Year Award.
Other finalists include the Geelong Advertiser, Gold Coast Bulletin, Rotorua Daily Post, Illawarra Mercury, Otago Daily Times, The Courier, Border Mail, Cairns Post and Northern Advocate.
The Bendigo Advertiser’s NewsNow website is a finalist in the digital News Site of the Year.
Other finalists are Newcastle Herald, Rotorua Daily Post, The Chronicle, The Courier, The Advocate and The Examiner.
The Bendigo Advertiser-pioneered NewsNow concept is one of seven finalists for the Digital Publishing Innovation of the Year Award open to all media outlets in the Asia Pacific region.
The other finalists are Apple Daily Taiwan, The Straits Times, Australian Financial Review, Stuff.co.nz, Sydney Morning Herald and Sun-Herald.
The Newspaper Works chief executive Mark Hollands said more than 1000 entries were submitted for the PANPA Awards.
‘’Judges have again remarked on the outstanding quality of journalism and the professionalism of our production and commercial engagement,’’ he said.
‘’The awards demonstrate that publishers are maintaining the highest standards of professionalism while making the business transformation to a balanced portfolio of print and digital assets.’’
Bendigo Advertiser photographers Jim Aldersey and Glenn Daniels have also been short-listed by PANPA for their work.
Aldersey is a finalist in the sport, regional section for his photograph Heat Stroke featuring White Hills cricketers Rhys Irwin and Gareth Davies playing cricket under the water in the Brennan Park pool to highlight the Bendigo District Cricket Association’s decision to abandon matches due to heat.
Daniels is a finalist in the portrait, regional section for his photograph Jack Eyes Home Run of young Bendigo baseballer Lachlan Jack that accompanied a story about the teenager heading to Mexico to play.
PANPA Marketing Awards judges earlier short-listed Bendigo Advertiser NewsNow as a regional finalist with the Sunshine Coast Daily for the Trade Campaign of the Year Award and with APN Australian Regional Media, Cairns Post and Post-Courier for the Consumer Campaign of the Year Award.
The Marketing Awards will be presented during a ceremony at The Establishment in Sydney on August 20 with the Newspaper of the Year Awards winners announced at The Ivy the following night.
