EARLIER: THE motorcyclist injured after police pursuit in Golden Square on Friday is now in a serious but stable condition.
The man was flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne in a critical but stable condition after being treated for life-threatening injuries at Bendigo Health.
The man was riding along a footpath when he crashed into a car carrying a woman and two children reversing from a private driveway, police have confirmed.
Inspector Michael Talbot said a police member was on a routine patrol when he attempted to intercept the motorbike.
"In Kirby Street he made an endeavour here to intercept the motorbike, at which time the motorbike got onto the footpath and rode away at a fast speed," he said.
"The policeman determined that it was too dangerous to pursue the motorbike, so he notified the police communications he was going to abandon it - which he did.
"Moments after he did the motorbike has struck a car on a footpath ... "
Police had no further information about the incident on Sunday.
