With the Gold to fold at the end of the VFL season following Wednesday night’s announcement the club won’t renew its licence, Jones will relocate back to Melbourne with his family and hopes to remain in football next year, with his interests not limited to just coaching.
“Because there has been so mush intense discussion and planning going into Wednesday’s announcement, and then dealing with it the past 48 hours, I haven’t had clear time yet to be planning my own strategy for 2015,” Jones said on Friday.
“But one thing I’m proud of up here is a lot of the community and welfare work I’ve done.
“I don’t see coming up to Bendigo over the past couple of years as a loss because it has certainly broadened my CV.
“Footy is what I know best and I’ll certainly explore options for next year, even if it’s something like a welfare or community-type role within a footy club because I’ve really enjoyed that.”
Meanwhile, a poll on the Bendigo Advertiser website asking has the Bendigo Gold made the right decision to call it quits at the end of the season has received almost two thirds of votes saying yes.
Of the 613 votes cast by Friday afternoon, 66.8 per cent voted yes, while 33.2 per cent voted no.
