A second man, the driver of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Police believe the driver swerved to avoid colliding with a kangaroo.
The Echuca man sustained pelvic and chest injuries and was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Meanwhile an 83-year-old man is in a stable condition at Bendigo Health after he was hit by a car in Kennington on Friday about 7.30pm.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance with head and arm injuries.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
