The decision is usually made based on location and convenience but many Bendigo establishments offer unique programs.
South Bendigo Kindergarten educational leader Jacqui Fawcett has started thinking outside the box.
"As well as a play-based kindergarten program that encourages the childrens’ imaginations, interests and inquiries we also look to teach the basic skills that will help in the transition to school," she said.
South Bendigo Kindergarten has developed as an education facility over 58 years of existence close to the Bendigo CBD.
"As well as the educational aspect there are also important elements such as structure and social skills the children need to develop," Ms Fawcett said.
“We now run an extended hours program that meets the needs of working parents on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“It’s been operating for the last five years and is very successful for both the parents and the children.”
South Bendigo Kindergarten teacher Pieta Brown said the kindergarten was a great community of families and educators.
"We have four educators across the week who will be at our open days and very excited to meet prospective families for 2015," she said.
They will open their doors on Thursday, June 5 between 4.40pm and 5.30pm.
Staff will be available to take prospective parents on a tour through the kindergarten.
