That's the scenario for Bears Lagoon-Serpentine's Damien Featherby and Marong's Corey Gregg this weekend.
Featherby and Gregg were last weekend co-coaches of the Loddon Valley team that lost its inter-league game to Central Highlands by 52 points at Bungaree.
This Saturday, they will lock horns against each other when Marong hosts Bears Lagoon-Serpentine in round seven in what's a crucial battle between two top-five teams.
"It's obviously a big game for both clubs being fourth versus fifth, and for us, we just need to win to keep in touch with that top three... it's simple as that," Featherby said on Wednesday.
After starting the season 0-2, the Bears have won three of their past four games, with their only slip-up during that time a five-point loss to Pyramid Hill last round after they had led by 22 points at half-time.
"We'd prefer to be better than 3-3, but at the same time, we'll start to get a reasonable side together over the next few weeks," Featherby said.
Meanwhile, in LVFL transfer news, Mitiamo full-forward Michael Spooner has quit the Superoos to join St Albans in the Western Regional Football League, and Leitchville-Gunbower forward Troy Parker has lodged a clearance to join Pyramid Hill.
