The game was in the balance at half-time with Geelong District holding a six-point advantage courtesy of its superior conversion, 8.2 to 6.8.
However, the second half was all Geelong District as it added 8.8 to 1.6 to record a 16.10 (106) to 7.14 (56) victory and bounce back from last year's North Central hiding.
"They were a classy outfit. We did well in the second quarter to get back into the game, but the way they used the footy probably killed us in the second half," Maryborough-Castlemaine District coach Shane Fisher said.
Maryborough-Castlemaine District kicked four of its seven goals in the second term to cut a 17-point quarter-time deficit back to six at half-time.
"Our boys had a crack and gave their all for the league," Fisher said.
"We ran out of legs in the last quarter and weren't as mature or as physically strong as they were.
"The final margin probably didn't give a true reflection of the game. We kicked 7.14 and at least eight of those points probably should have been goals, which could have been a different story."
Star onballer and captain Daniel Parkin starred for Maryborough-Castlemaine District to be the league's best player.
"He played a super game for us... he just kept getting from contest to contest and was always involved," Fisher said.
Ruckman Nigel Reid, forward Matt Brown, who kicked 2.6, Scott Sellers down back and wingman James Templeton were also among the better players.
The defeat drops Maryborough-Castlemaine to No.23 in the AFL Victoria Country rankings.
The league will take on the Ellinbank District league next year after it flogged Mid Gippsland by 89 points on Saturday.
