HUNDREDS of pooches of all shapes, sizes and colours walked around Lake Weeroona for the RSPCA Million Paws Walk at the weekend.
Bruce Mills and his dog Bomba and Lois Kelson and her dog Hollie were eager to do some exercise and at the same time show their support for the RSPCA.
Mr Mill said he adopted Bomba through the organisation after he found the dog wandering the street alone about two years ago.
"I took him to the RSPCA and the people who owned him didn't want him back," he said.
"He is very faithful."
Janette Nixon, who brought her dog Rosie along for the walk, said the RSPCA was a great organisation and animal cruelty had no place in the community.
"There is too much animal cruelty.
We strive to deal with all animals and the community support we get from events like (the walk) help us provide that care.
- Mark Goodwin
"It is really sad."
Ms Nixon said Rosie was adopted through Victorian Dog Rescue.
The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is the organisation's biggest annual fundraiser.
All proceeds raised from events across the state go to the organisation to help shelter dogs.
Bendigo RSPCA supervisor Mark Goodwin said organisers were pleased with the turnout at the lake.
He said the Bendigo shelter worked to improve the welfare of "all animals great and small".
"We strive to deal with all animals and the community support we get from events like (the walk) help us provide that care," he said.
