They are yet to count final numbers but say there are more participants than there were for last year's event, which drew 2000.

People of all ages and abilities enjoyed the sun at Strathdale's Beischer Park as they walked or ran in support of breast cancers sufferers.

Organiser Gaye Harrington said she and the committee were thrilled with the turnout.

"There's an extraordinary amount of goodwill for the event," Ms Harrington said.

"People understand what the spirit of the day is all about – to support the cause," she said.

"We welcome serious runners but it's great that families with prams can also participate."

Ms Harrington said a small committee of dedicated people organised the annual event, with the invaluable support of volunteers.

"I'd like to say how eternally grateful I am that people turn up to help out," she said.

"The Rotary Club is here every year."

Fellow organiser Ben Cook of Fernwood Fitness expects the money raised from today's event to exceed $60,000. The proceeds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for breast cancer research.

The event included an eight-kilometre run followed by a four-kilometre run or walk.

This is the sixth year Bendigo has hosted the classic.
