At 0-4, the Bloods have made their worst start to a season since 2004 ahead of Saturday’s trip to Gardiner Reserve to take on Gisborne.
However, 0-4 could easily have been 2-2 for the Bloods, who have lost tight games against Golden Square (one point) and Kyneton last week (eight points).
“We’re obviously not happy to be 0-4, but I’m pleased with how we’re progressing as a group moving forward,” Bloods’ coach Jeff Brennan said on Friday.
“We’ve had our chances to be 2-2 and other than our game against Eaglehawk (round three), we haven’t played poorly.”
The major deficiency for the Bloods this season has been up forward, although, they did kick 16 goals last week in what was a loss to Kyneton.
Liam McGlashan (five) and Luke Crawford (two) kicked seven goals between them last week, but both are out on Saturday, with Crawford injured and McGlashan playing with the Bendigo Pioneers.
While the Bloods have Crawford and McGlashan among four outs, Gisborne has been boosted by three major inclusions in 2012 Michelsen medallist Scott Walsh, Tom May and Cameron Medica.
• Round five concludes on Sunday when Maryborough hosts Strathfieldsaye at Princes Park.
The Storm are still far from full strength, with only Lachlan Bonney coming back into the side for the clash with the Magpies, who have former skipper Joel Malone back into the team that lost to Sandhurst by 51 points last week.
