The Bombers and reigning premier Cats are the only undefeated teams after four rounds, but this is by far Leitchville-Gunbower’s biggest test of the season, with only one of the teams it has beaten so far - White Hills - currently in the top five.
The Bombers have consistently struggled against the Cats since joining the HDFL in 2010.
The Cats have won all eight meetings between the two sides by an average of 96 points, showing just how big a challenge confronts the Bombers at Leitchville.
The Bombers - who have Joel Helman (14), Troy Parker (13), Jake Williams (9) and Lee Pollock (9) among the HDFL’s leading goalkickers - are coming off back-to-back wins by more than 100 points over Elmore and Heathcote, while the Cats will be fresh from the bye.
• Is Huntly in danger of slipping from grand finalists last year to missing the finals this season?
The Hawks are under pressure at 0-3 and on the bottom of the ladder.
They have been more competitive in games than that record suggests, but if they can’t open their account at home against Colbinabbin, it becomes a mighty tough haul back from 0-4.
Colbinabbin at 1-3 will also be desperate for a victory after losing at home to North Bendigo by two points last week, despite winning three of the four quarters.
• North Bendigo will start red-hot favourites at Classique Developments Oval to improve to 3-1 when it hosts the battling Heathcote, which looks headed for its first season out of the finals since 2004.
• And the much improved Mount Pleasant should notch its fourth win and hold its position in the top three when it tackles the winless Elmore at Toolleen.
