The key performance measures show: Bendigo Health admitted 10,061 patients in the three months to the end of December – up from 9479 admissions in the same period a year earlier; the service admitted 3448 emergency patients in the three months to the end of December – up from 3337 emergency admissions a year earlier.
There has also been a reduction in the number of patients on the elective surgery waiting list – from 1008 at the end of the December 2012 quarter to 983 at the end of December 2013.
The hospital treated 100 per cent of Category 1 emergency patients immediately on arrival at the Bendigo Hospital emergency department, 84 per cent of Category 2 patients within 10 minutes of arrival at the ED; and 90 per cent of non-urgent Category 5 patients within two hours of arrival at the ED.
Health Minister David Davis this week released the data.
"Bendigo Health is pleased with its performance across the service," Mr Mulder said.
"We continue to face significant increases in demand, with 6.5 per cent more patients presenting for admission so far this financial year.
"There has also been a significant increase in ambulance arrivals to Emergency which is reflected in the number of Category 1 and Category 2 patients treated in the December quarter.
"We are pleased to report a healthy trading position despite this extra activity.
"At present we are treating five per cent more patients than we are funded to under the contract agreed with Government.
"Unfortunately there are still too many patients presenting with preventable lifestyle-related conditions and we encourage our community to take more responsibility for their own health."
