The prestigious race has attracted competitors from across Australia.
Hosted by the Victorian Speed Boat Club, the event will return to Lake Eppalock after 19 year stint away from its banks due to low water levels and other club’s winning the rights to host the event.
Victorian Speed Boat Club member Brad Nankervis said the E.C Griffith Cup was one of the most important speed boat racing trophy’s to be contested in the southern hemisphere.
He said it was great to have the event back at Lake Eppalock after so many years.
“It is huge for the club and huge for Lake Eppalock,” Nankervis said.
“The cup is one of the oldest motorsport trophy’s in the world.
“This year also marks 50 years since there was water at Lake Eppalock.”
Nankervis said there were 12 entries into the main race with 12-time E.C Griffith Cup champion Ron Burton attempting to defend his title.
As part of the competition the boats can be of any design as long as they are powered by a single automotive engine.
Nankervis said racing would begin at 10am on Saturday with members of the public encouraged to attend.
