Connaughton will lead the Bloods into battle when senior footy marks a long-awaited return to Kennington's Harry Trott Oval.
Despite a 0-2 start, South Bendigo coach Jeff Brennan said there were a lot of positives to take from last Sunday's match at Golden Square.
A great contest ended in a one-point loss for the Bloods.
"Working hard at contested footy and defence are two areas that are a major focus," Brennan said.
"This match we want to turn that hard work into scoring more goals."
Brennan is rapt to have Connaughton on-field.
"Azza is our captain, great in close, and can attack well."
South's defensive play kept Sandhurst and Golden Square to 14 and 12 goals respectively.
"We have defended well against two of the best teams in the league."
Defensive pressure will again be important against the Luke Monaghan-coached Eaglehawk.
"The battle between Matt Gilmore (Hawks' full-forward) and Jarred Postle will be a highlight," Brennan said.
The South coach said the club was looking forward to playing at Harry Trott Oval in Neale Street.
"It's a similar sized ground to Dower Park. We are excited about playing on a ground where we have been training regularly."
