A covered walkway, which will host several new shops, will link the centres.
Strath Village has been providing services to the Strathdale community for 22 years and management says the link will help enhance opportunities.
Variety Superstore manager Doug Greenwell said the centres were working together to increase business.
“There’s a lot of excitement about us becoming virtually one store,” he said.
Kennington Village is being constructed now, with Woolworths and several other stores expected to open in coming months.
Woolworths will fund the walkway.
“It just shows how much growth is occurring in the Strathdale region and how many services are now needed,” Mr Greenwell said.
“At our centre we have a post office, two banks - all the services are together and this will just provide more things for traders to enjoy.
“We are hoping a few more food places will be built so people can enjoy a relaxed environment while getting everything they need.”
Mr Greenwell said there were thousands of people driving past Strath Village Shopping Centre every day, coming to and from the booming region of Strathfieldsaye.
“If we can get even 10 per cent of those people driving past we will increase our business so much,” he said.
“Some people don’t want to shop at IGA so now we have another supermarket to keep them happy and that region is just growing each and every day.
“We have just had the big estate built out there and the two centres here will cater for those 1000 extra houses.”
The Woolworths Kennington Village development in Condon Street will feature a 3800 square-metre supermarket, about nine speciality stores and spaces for cafes and restaurants.
An advertisement says the developer wants a “vibrant retail mix”. The site will include a 280-space car park to complement the 250-space car park at Strath Village, with figures showing about 34,000 people will live in the area by 2026.
