THE NRL has announced it will consider outlawing lifting tackles in a bid to prevent another injury similar to that which ended Newcastle forward Alex McKinnon's career.

To this I say - hallelujah!
In a day and age where sport, such as NRL and AFL, are becoming faster and more tactical, a player's safety should be the number one priority.
Games are meant to change, whether we, as supporters, like it or not.
I wish we could turn back time and save Alex.
- Phil Gould
It might take a little getting used to and may attract some backlash, but if it prevents a player from sustaining a serious injury like McKinnon's - is it not worth it?
As a sister who watches her brother play a high-contact sport at an elite level, it is a sickening feeling when a player falls motionless to the ground.
I can't even begin to imagine what McKinnon's family and friends are going through - it must be a nightmare.
I think Sun-Herald columnist Phil Gould put it best when he said he believed it was a terrible incident but one the NRL should have seen coming.
"I wish we could turn back time and save Alex," he wrote.
While there might be little that can be done for McKinnon, there is lots that can be done for other players.
Please make the right decision, NRL.
