Not only did the 31.18 (204) to 11.10 (76) victory at home show Talbot - which kicked its highest score since 2008 - is a side on the up, but signalled the start of what shapes as a challenging season for Maldon.
Joshua Parsons was a force up forward for the Hawks with a bag of eight goals, while Trent Barras booted five, with both among Talbot's best players in the one-sided clash
Matthew Smith, Luke Kemp and new coach Rick Andrews were other standouts for the Hawks.
The returning Joel Cross kicked four of Maldon's 11 goals.
Kyle Winstanley, Hayden Kelly and recruit Ben Doyle battled hard for the Bombers.
