CONSIDERING the calibre of talent Strathfieldsaye lost during the off-season, plus a knee injury to captain Greg Lyon in round one, the Jets did well to win three games.
Many were predicting doom and gloom for the Jets this season, but they defied all the knockers early to win three of their first six games.
One of those victories was an upset over power side Strathdale-Maristians when they knocked over the Suns by 29 runs in round four at Bell Oval.
However, the Jets were unable to continue their positive form of early in the season, losing their last seven games as they tumbled down the ladder to finish eighth - only one spot lower than last year when they had a far superior team.
Without doubt, it was the “Ben Devanny Show” at Strathfieldsaye.
Devanny - who took on the captaincy following the injury to Lyon - won both the BDCA Cricketer of the Year and Bendigo Advertiser-Bicknells Player of the Year awards.
All-rounder Devanny combined 472 runs, including two centuries, with 29 wickets in an exceptional season.
His brother, Cory Devanny, also battled hard for the Jets with 321 runs, while youngster Hamish Schumacher (295) showed more promising signs.
