MATT Brown is full of praise for the firefighters who saved his home.
CFA brigades from the Castlemaine region battled a blaze at Mr Brown’s home earlier this month.
The Springfield resident said his home would have been destroyed were it not for the help of the volunteers and nearby residents.
“They did a wonderful job and they did save our house,” he said.
“There was a lot of stress on the day but the house was saved by volunteers.
“If the fire had have jumped our road then it would have caused major problems and probably threatened another 10 or 15 houses.
“So they did a great job.”
Mr Brown’s brother Stephen helped bring the fire under control with about 40 other people.
“The fire came within about five metres of the house,” he said.
“We had to bail as it came right up close to the house ... that’s when we got in the car and got out of there.
“We couldn’t see anything, it was so dangerous.”
Matt said the National Red Balloon Day was a good way to thank firefighters.
“The CFA is a volunteer organisation,” he said.
“If there weren’t volunteers then there would be a lot of things that would not work.
“Volunteers are very important for everybody.
“I think the balloon day is a good idea.
“Everyone likes being thanked for what they do.”
