He launched an exhibition of realist paintings called The Beautiful Surface at The Capital on Thursday.
"I like painting stuff that is readily available, I like the ordinary," he said.
Helen Zappelli, a friend of Mr Taylor's, attended the exhibition and said she loved his paintings because they came alive.
"They (the paintings) look really life like," she said.
"I love the fruit, they are marvellous."
Andrea Huggard said she loved the artworks that had butterflies in them.
"The butterflies are pretty."
Shirley Huggard, Mr Taylor's sister, said she was proud of her brother's work.
"My favourite piece is called Grandma Flowers," she said.
Mr Taylor, who has been artistic since he was a kid, said the exhibition shows he is moving towards simple but effective pieces.
"My favourite piece is one of an apple," he said.
"And another one of fruit with tin foil, I like all the shine and reflection."
The Beautiful Surface is on until March 28 at The Capital which is located at 50 View Street in Bendigo and can be contacted on 5434 6100.
