Browell lost his battle with leukaemia in 2005 at the age of 34.
The popular Bendigo jockey was one of Victoria’s leading apprentices in the late 1980s and early 1990s and rode in the Melbourne Cup twice.
The state's leading jockeys always support the race and this year is no different, with Glen Boss, Michael Rodd, Brad Rawiller, Steven Arnold, Chad Schofield, Vlad Duric, Chris Symons and Stephen Baster all having mounts in the race.
This year's Colin Browell Memorial Handicap is an intriguing event, with the regally-bred Wales to resume for high-profile owner Lloyd Williams.
Wales has been sidelined for the best part of two years.
The four-year-old son of Redoute's Choice won the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on debut on April 28, 2012.
Injuries skittled Wales' three-year-old campaign, but such is his potential the Williams team has been patient with his recovery.
Steven Arnold takes the ride on Wales in the benchmark 70 1300m event.
The testing material appears to be lightly-raced duo Dargio and Carillo from the powerful Mick Price and Peter Snowden stables respectively.
Dargio showed plenty of promise at its first campaign, winning over a mile at Cranbourne and 1700m at Sale.
Thursday's race might be a bit short for the son of Darci Brahma, but he's sure to be hitting the line hard.
Carillo has won two of its six career starts, including a five-length demolition of its rivals over 1100m at Bendigo last September.
The three-year-old ran second at Mornington at its first run this campaign and should be fitter for the assignment.
Colin Browell's father, Allen, has three runners at Thursday's meeting.
He opens up with first-starter Thor's Own in the Jayco Maiden Plate (1000m).
The son of God's Own will be ridden by Colin Browell's cousin, Brad Rawiller.
Allen Browell will also saddle up Many Doves in race four and La Pepper in the last event.
