It is the first time a PGA event will be held in greater Bendigo in more than 10 years.
Neangar Park Golf Club will host the stableford event on February 17.
PGA head professional Erik Hendrix said the event was important for golf in Bendigo.
He said elite trainee golfers will pit their skills against the best current players in Victoria.
“It is a fairly major event in the rankings of golf because these players are seen as the step below the professionals on the tour,” Hendrix said.
“In terms of growing the club and being noticed, it is a pretty big deal.”
About 45 apprentices from across the state have already signed up for the tournament.
“Players from Portsea all the way to the border of New South Wales will be playing,” Hendrix said.
“Players might bring caddies, bring family down to Bendigo who might be keen golfers so from a club point of view it is a chance to build our brand.
“It is also a chance help these young players coming through the system.”
The event will also offer young golfers the chance for a share in $5000, the biggest prize money offered to apprentices outside of major events.
Hendrix hoped the event would attract more golfers to Neangar Park.
“Two years ago when I started at the club I hadn’t heard of it, but now more and more people are recognising this facility,” he said.
“It is a hidden gem.”
He said businesses also have a chance to sponsor a hole, with RJ Jewellers showing their support for the tournament.
