The meet is one of the most prestigious events for athletes aged between nine and 15.
Bendigo Little Athletics vice president Tracey Wilson said athletes will compete in a range of track and field disciplines across the two-day event.
Held at the La Trobe University Bendigo Athletics Complex, participants will compete in high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, hurdles, 100 metres and 800 metre events.
Wilson said the schedule between the boys and girls competing varied between age groups.
“Points will be given out to competitors at the end of each event,” he said.
“It usually comes down to the last event to determine the winner.
“The person with the most points at the end of the competition wins.”
Wilson said there would be a strong contingent of Bendigo athletes competing this weekend.
He said the championships were an event athletes looked forward to each year.
“It is a premier event,” Wilson said.
“Bendigo will have a good cross section of boys and girls competing.”
The event, which Wilson says hasn’t been hosted in Bendigo in years, will again put the city on the map for athletic events.
“We will have 750 athletes and their families come to Bendigo and about 100 officials officiating over the two days,” Wilson said.
"It is a great event for Greater Bendigo.
"It will build the profile of of Bendigo."
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday is 41 and 42 degrees respectively.
Wilson said he hoped the heat wouldn't affect the athletes.
He said competition begins on Saturday and Sunday at 8.30am and will conclude at approximately 4pm.
