The 33-year-old man was also charged with a drug offence after police found the man was in possession of amphetamines worth $5000.
Bendigo Police Crime Investigation Detective Senior Constable Tony Roberts said police believed the counterfeit money had been used at 12 Bendigo businesses.
He said the notes were used at retail stores, fast food outlets and the pokies.
Police said if businesses were unsure if they were in possession of counterfeit notes they should head to http://banknotes.rba.gov.au/counterfeits.html or contact the station on 5448 1300.
