Perera has been a personal trainer for 12 years and arrived in Bendigo two years ago when his partner got a job in town.
After a year at Fit Republic Bendigo, he began his own elite sports conditioning and fitness business, The Human Mechanics.
Perera is on a mission to set the benchmark in Bendigo for personal training and reshaping.
After 12 months, the Human Mechanics has moved into its own premises in High Street, Bendigo.
"It's been great to have a new start," Perera said.
"I thought it was time to expand and this place was gathering dust, so I took it. It's been really popular."
Perera said after consulting with people about what they were doing with other trainers, it became apparent that communication andavailabilty was a major issue for some.
"I asked if they called their trainer and asked questions and they said get told off. That's not how i do things," he said.
"We have constant contact with our Facebook group, which is private.
"The great thing was when they joined, most of the group hadn't met before and it was quiet before they got comfortable with each other and there were these stories about where they'd come from and what they'd gone through."
Perera said the supportive posts set a precedent for people to unload and get things off their chest.
"There are a lot of health issues and problems that every day people come up against and that no one really talks about," he said.
"The community is what's important."
The programs available are designed for a wide variety of people.
"Whether they are students or stay at home parents, they can all come in without denting the bank," he said.
