Labor will introduce a late-night public transport trial if it wins the state government election in November.
The proposal includes a 2am regional bus service leaving Southern Cross Station on Friday and Saturday nights. The shuttle buses would connect commuters to Bendigo, Geelong, Ballarat and Traralgon.
Labor's plan also includes 24-hour weekend services on all metropolitan Melbourne train lines, as well as most tram lines.
The trial would be one-year-long and would begin on New Year's Eve 2015.
Currently, the latest weekend services for Bendigo commuters are V/Line trains that leave Southern Cross Station at 11.50pm on Friday and Saturday.
Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards said she believed there would be strong demand for the 2am service.
She said it gave people more flexibility in going to Melbourne and not having to worry about rushing back.
"It's good for people working in Melbourne," she said. "It's also great for people going to sporting events or concerts, or shows."
Ms Edwards said public transport shaped as a key issue in this election year.
"I think it is going to be very important," he said.
"Particularly with the lack of investment from this current government and the lack of maintenance in V/Line services."
"It's something people will be focusing on."
Ms Edwards said the trial of the Homesafe transport plan would cost about $50million.
