The Bureau of Meteorology recorded a low of of 30.2 degrees at 3.30am Thursday.
The brief respite was short-lived as the temperature shot back up to 35.8 degrees by 3.56am.
The previous highest minimum daily temperature this year was 22.4 degrees on Tuesday morning.
The hottest night in January 2013 was 21.7 degrees. In February last year the hottest low was 21.0 degrees.
The bureau’s duty forecaster Terry Ryan said Bendigo hit a high of 43.2 degrees at 2.46pm Wednesday and was forecast to reach 44 degrees Thursday.
Echuca is expected to get to 45 degrees Thursday.
