Coliban Water general manager stakeholder services Roslyn Salmon said customers lost water supply when a 300-millimetre main burst about 1.45pm.
''Fortunately, we had crews in the area who arrived at 2pm,'' Ms Salmon said.
''They started slowly shutting down the main until contractors came onsite at 2.45pm and started repair work around 3pm.''
Ms Salmon said workmen slowly recharged the main to restore supply after repairs had been completed.
She said a mix of business and residential customers were without water for about two-and-a-half hours.
''We were fortunate it's school holidays as there was a school in the area,'' she said. ''A few businesses also weren't open.''
Ms Salmon said the cause of the main burst would be investigated.
''Bursts are part of operating a water business and we will be looking into what the cause was,'' she said.
A burst water main was also reported in Bendigo at the intersection of Napier Street and Weeroona Avenue on Saturday night.
