The Bendigo rider finished sixth in Wednesday's under-23 national time-trial event in Ballarat and was named in the UniSA-Australia team for 2014.
Haig, 20, joins Caleb Ewan and Campbell Flakemore as the first three riders selected in the squad.
They will form the nucleus of the team for this month's Tour Down Under where he will ride against the likes of Tour de France champion Cadel Evans.
“These are three of the best young riders in Australia today,” Team UniSA-Australia manager Dave Sanders said.
“Caleb Ewan is one of the brightest lights in the cycling world at the moment; he’s a real superstar and the cycling world is watching him.
“Campbell Flakemore and Jack Haig have both got fantastic results behind them too, so we will expect exciting things from them at this year’s Santos Tour Down Under.”
Haig finished one minute and 28 seconds behind winner Jordan Kerby (37 minutes, 11 seconds) in Wednesday's time-trial over 28 km.
Former Bendigo-based rider Miles Scotson was third, 19 seconds behind Kerby.
Harcourt's Lachlan Norris finished 20th in the elite men's time-trial over 45 km.
Norris was six minutes and 49 seconds behind winner Michael Hepburn (56:25).
The championships continue on Thursday, with the men's, women's and under-23 criterium events to be raced from 4.30pm.
