Work doesn’t stop for Bendigo’s emergency service crews, with the seven Bendigo Fire Brigade members clocking on, on Wednesday.
However it wasn’t all work and no play for Mick Lavery, Mark Crozier, Brent Clayton, Stuart Spencer, Darren Eenjes, John Zuccarelli and Travis Harris.
The brigade shared in a festive feast with their families at the Bendigo brigade office.
A festive lunch was prepared, crackers placed on the table and even a couple of the members donned Santa hats to get into the Christmas spirit.
Senior Station officer Darren Eenjes said his family got up early to exchange gifts.
For Travis Harris and John Zuccarelli they had to travel from Rochester and Craigieburn respectively.
“Everyone had a hand in making lunch,” Mr Zuccarelli said.
Officer Eenjes said Christmas lunch at the station was a chance for families to share some time together.
He said as part of the Christmas celebrations, the Bendigo crew visited Bendigo Base Hospital.
“We went to the hospital, into the children’s ward and gave all the children a CFA teddy,” officer Eenjes said.
“We do it every year.”
Officer Eenjes said the same crew would be working for the next three days before having a break.
“Our job is to look after the community,” he said.
