Families and friends gathered to sing along to some festive season favourites.
Organisers said it was a great event for bringing the community together to celebrate Christmas.
It was reminiscent of the 2004 movie Christmas With The Kranks.
In the film a husband and wife enlist the help of friends and neighbours to plan a last-minute Christmas dinner for their daughter, who is flying home for the holiday.
The characters end up working together to host a successful Christmas celebration, despite their earlier grievances. There’s a seminal moment in the film when Dan Aykryod’s character says “we're a community, and the people in a community stick together.”
It’s an important message and a sentiment shared by many in the crowd last night.
We're a community, and the people in a community stick together
- Dan Aykroyd
It was clear enough from the Wilkinson family, who have volunteered to set up the lights at the Carols for 30 years.
Their enthusiasm was matched by many others who lined up with rugs and chairs from mid-afternoon.
It was a great display of people celebrating a shared experience.
