Brett Raymond Austin, 39, was drunk when he went to his neighbour's home at 2pm on August 28 to ask for money, the Bendigo Magistrates' Court heard.
Austin's request was denied and he was told to "f*** off". He left and returned 10 minutes later wielding a spanner he held in the shape of a gun.
The court heard he told his neighbour he would kill him and that he would organise someone to bury him.
The neighbour called police and Austin fled before he was arrested a short time later.
Austin, who has an acquired brain injury, was urged to stop drinking.
