Junortoun resident Scott Nicholas has built an electric racing track on the back of a trailer in his garage.
He plans to hire the track out for parties and events and expects strong interest in the new business.
“It’s a one-off track,” the Raceline Mobile Slot Car Hire owner said.
“Someone else had started building the track quite a few years back.
“We’ve renovated it and improved on what was there to make it more suitable to travel around.
“It was a home-built stationary track that’s now gone mobile.”
Mr Nicholas spent 12 months creating the track, which features three lanes, hills, and tight corners, with small figurines in the crowd and a strong attention to detail.
A computer system measures the lap times of the three racers, with a top lap time of about 6.5 seconds.
The track can be hooked onto the back of a car and taken to any location.
“The plan is to do parties, particularly kids' parties,” Mr Nicholas said.
“I want to concentrate on the general Bendigo area ideally.
“But I’m happy to go anywhere.
“I want to support the community around here.”
Mr Nicholas said the track was worth up to $5000 with individual cars worth up to $120.
“We’ve had it on the market for the last few weeks,” he said.
“The kids and adults have really been keen on it.
“There’s been a fair bit of interest.”
Mr Nicholas’s brother, Scott, operates a similar track in Launceston.
The system has been on show at the Bendigo market for three weeks.
Mr Nicholas, a fitter and turner by trade, hopes to create a second track as the business grows.
“The long-term plan is to grow it slowly,” he said.
“There’s room for a second track but we’ll start off small and see how we go.”
The speed of each track can be customised to cater for people of all ages.
