Last year Bruce Springsteen played Hanging Rock in front of 17,000 people. Previously Leonard Cohen and Rod Stewart have played headline shows there.
The Rolling Stones confirmed the shows overnight as part of their 14 On Fire tour.
It sees shows being played at the Adelaide Oval, Perth Arena, Rod Laver Arena, Sydney’s Allphones Arena, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre and Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.
A pre-sale for the Stones’ shows is on Monday, December 9, while general public tickets go on sale on December 16.
“We can't wait to reconnect with all our friends in Australia and New Zealand,” Mick Jagger said in a press release.
“It's been a while since we've played to you all, so we are looking forward to being back on stage and playing your favourite songs.”
Mick Taylor, who was a member of The Rolling Stones from 1969-1974, will be a special guest for this tour.
“The energy between the band is better than ever and we’re all looking forward to coming back Down Under,” Keith Richards said in the press release.
“I can’t wait to get back on the stage with the boys.”
The Rolling Stones were last down under in 2006 on their “A Bigger Bang” World Tour. They first Australian tour was in 1965 – nearly 50 years ago.
Crowd favourites Gimme Shelter, Paint It Black, Jumping Jack Flash, Tumbling Dice, and It’s Only Rock and Roll are sure to be a part of the Stones’ sets.
