The City of Greater Bendigo council has awarded Belgravia Leisure a two-year contract to manage five pools across the municipality.
The company will manage Bendigo Aquatic Centre, Brennan Park, Heathcote, Marong and Kangaroo Flat pools.
Bendigo Regional YMCA has maintained the pools for the past five years.
A City of Greater Bendigo media statement said Belgravia Leisure received the tender based on cost, capacity and capability. The council has the option of extending the contract for another two years at a later date, if appropriate.
The previous tender for managing the pools expired in June 2013 and the public tender process received a variety of interest.
Manager Active and Healthy Communities Patrick Jess said the council looked forward to working with Belgravia Leisure.
“The company has extensive experience in managing aquatic facilities, gymnasiums, golf courses and hospitality venues across Australia,” Mr Jess said.
“We are confident Belgravia Leisure will provide a high level of service and continue to maintain our facilities to a standard patrons have come to expect.
“The tender process allowed the city to ensure the successful applicant would deliver value for money and that ratepayers’ money is spent appropriately.”
Belgravia Leisure is a Melbourne-based company with a regional manager based in the Bendigo area, who also oversees the maintenance of facilities in Hepburn.
Chief Executive Officer Adrian Johnston said Belgravia Leisure was excited to manage the pools on behalf of the City of Greater Bendigo.
“We look forward to providing a wide range of services for residents and visitors to Greater Bendigo,” Mr Johnston said.
“Belgravia Leisure manages more than 40 outdoor pools across Australia on behalf of regional councils, so understands how important they are to community wellbeing.”
The company is keen to employ lifeguards and casual staff locally.
The City of Greater Bendigo thanked the Bendigo Regional YMCA for its commitment to maintaining the pools over the past five years.
The Peter Krenz Leisure Centre is managed by the YMCA, so the council will continue to work with the community organisation to complete improvement projects over the coming year.
