The new Central Victorian Football administration structure was completed this week with the appointment of Ballarat-based Abrams as regional operations manager.
In what’s the position vacated by Steven Oliver last month, among the roles of Abrams will be to oversee the running of the BFNL.
“I grew up and played football in Ballarat and I’ve played inter-league against Bendigo and know that it’s a very strong football community,” Abrams said yesterday.
“I also know that there is a good opportunity for Bendigo to retain players, rather than lose them to other regions, which is really important.
“Hopefully, I’m a person who can gain trust through the clubs and work really closely with the clubs and try to improve their structures and facilities.
“In club-land it can be very difficult. A lot of it is volunteer based, so hopefully, we can grow the league and help the clubs to operate on a day-to-day basis.”
Abrams is coaching VFL club North Ballarat’s development side, but will step down from the role to take on his new job in Bendigo.
He played most of his football at North Ballarat, coached Newlyn in the Central Highlands Football League, and also had a playing stint at St Albans in the Geelong Football League.
Abrams is also the founder of the Red Onion Creative Agency that specialises in sports marketing and communication strategies for semi-professional sport.
He has also had a stint as the head of marketing and business development for North Ballarat in the VFL.
“This job for me is a great opportunity with Bendigo being a really strong football community,” Abrams said.
“I’ve met Steven Oliver previously and know what the job entails. It’s a great challenge that I’m looking forward to.”
He starts on July 1.
