On Friday, Team Justice, the staff and their families from the Bendigo Law Courts, will take part in the Bendigo Relay for Life.
The staff at the law courts have been part of the event for the past 11 years; however, this year’s event means a little more to Mrs Jones. She was diagnosed with breast cancer last August.
“I was lucky, mine was caught really early. I was extremely lucky,” Mrs Jones said.
“I have finished my chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I am now just on medication for the next five years.”
But Mrs Jones said she wanted to raise awareness of other cancers.
“I guess I think that breast cancer is already out there and a lot of high-profile people have had it so I think we need to raise money for the forgotten cancers,” she said.
Mrs Jones said Friday’s event would be an emotional time for some participants. “The candlelight ceremony is emotional,” she said.
“People will light candles for lost ones. It’s beautiful to see.”
Team Justice has also been busy raising money. Each year they have managed to raise more than $5500, and this year is no different.
