Market organisers have teamed with Sonia Anthony from Masons of Bendigo to prepare picnic bags which showcase central Victorian produce.
The picnic bags will include pork rice paper rolls, roast pumpkin and oregano salad, mini tarts, olives, pastrami, quince paste, sourdough breads, sweet treats and a vegetarian option. They will form part of this month’s market, which will be held on April 13 from 11am.
Bendigo Community Farmers’ Market president Bryley Drummond said the bags gave the opportunity to try a range of produce.
“It’s a chance for people to sample food they mightn’t normally have at home,” she said.
The picnic bags can be reserved by going to the “news” section at www.bcfm.org.au or by contacting Ms Drummond via email at info@bcfm.com.au.
Bags cost $35 and can be collected on April 13 from the information tent at the market.
Ms Drummond said farmers’ markets were growing in popularity in the region.
“People make it a social day out, like the traditional market square atmosphere,” she said.
“The produce is direct from the farmer and you get to interact with the farmer and the farmer has to vouch for the flavour and authenticity of what they’re selling.”
The Bendigo Community Farmers’ Market is asking for volunteers to help with the packaging of the picnic bags from 7am the morning of the market.?
