I write to inform the community that as a result of a suspected deliberately lit fire in December last year, which impacted on the small timber chapel at the entrance to the Kangaroo Flat Cemetery, the overall structural integrity of the building has been compromised.

The fire damage has unfortunately compounded existing structural issues associated with the chapel.
As a consequence the chapel and surrounding memorial areas, immediately adjacent to the chapel, have been fenced off in the interests of public safety, ahead of the future need to demolish the building.
Recognising the chapel has been part of the cemetery for many years, I invite interested community members to attend a briefing to be held at 2.30pm, Thursday, March 14, at the Kangaroo Flat Community House, 21 Woolcock Avenue, Kangaroo Flat.
At the briefing I will inform the community on the processes that will be adopted keeping in mind the building’s structural integrity.
It will cover plans to demolish the building, any impact the transition plans will have on the existing memorial areas immediately adjacent to the chapel and future plans for the site. Thank you in anticipation of assisting me to promote this important issue.
